Vine

Another rich aspect of Christ is typified by the vine. Christ clearly declared in John 15, “I am the true vine” (v. 1). In the Old Testament type, seen in Judges 9:13, the vine says, “Shall I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man…?” This vine is a picture of Christ as the One who sacrificed everything in order to produce new wine that cheers God and man. When we experience such a Christ, we are enabled to sacrifice for others and for God. Only then are we genuinely cheerful and happy. When we care only for ourselves, we often find ourselves murmuring and complaining. But if we learn to experience Christ as the real vine and thereby sacrifice ourselves for others and for God, we will also experience Him as our cheering wine.
